Bed liner on the Rear Bumper

07/15/2023

Its been a while since I've done anything with the 4Runner. Really just been enjoying it as it is, HOWEVER that last bit of chrome on the rear bumper really needs to go.

I've talked to a few companies about making one but the design I end up with is basically the stock bumper with some D hooks, not a super good use of my build budget.

After kicking around some ideas I eventually landed on using Raptor Liner to coat the bumper.

After removing the bumper I hit everything I could with a angle grinder/flap disc. For the spots that I couldn't I had to use good old fashioned elbow grease and in this Texas heat it was not very enjoyable. Once sanded I soaked everything in degreaser and gave all the pieces a good cleaning. Since there was some rust I coated the surfaces in Rust Blast for about two hours. After a rinse and another wipe down with  paint thinner it was ready for some bed liner.

It really is as easy to spray as they say it is. With the compressor set to 55 PSI the bumper got coated inside and outside with the Raptor Liner, letting it dry an hour each side. I probably should have waited 24 hours before putting it back on but I was already drenched in seat and sunburned so I just wanted to wrap it up.

Looks really good and seems pretty tough PLUS I have extra bed liner to spray my trailer.
