Steering Guide Replacement

8/9/2023

I believe I've finally resolved the steering play issue! It's a bit unfortunate that this turned out to be the last component I replaced, but the bushings and tie rods were due for replacement regardless.

Just to recap, there was a slight side-to-side movement that became more pronounced at higher speeds, making the drive somewhat unstable when driving at 70+mph. Upon lifting the front end and moving the front tires from right to left, I noticed a bit of play. As a last-ditch effort, I decided to switch out the steering guide with an updated version, and the result was remarkable - no more side-to-side movement!

It seems the old design had inherent play, whereas the new one is a solid piece. The only challenge I encountered during the replacement was finding a suitable tool to secure the new cap. As you can see in the image, I unintentionally marked the socket. While I'd like to tighten it further, I'll need to locate something that fits better for the task.
