Stubby Antenna Mod

My retractable antenna did work but there were a few things I was never really a fan of. One being the noisy motor when I turned the car on, that's the reason I actually left the power to the antenna disconnected when I replaced the radio. The second being it just really dated the vehicle. Nothing screams 1999 like that multi tiered antenna flapping in the wind. 

I stumbled on THIS  thread where they replaced the old antenna with a stubby version which I really liked. 

I couldn't follow the directions exactly because my local hardware store didn't have the required items so I had to improvise. Below you can see the original configuration of nuts and washers which I thought would grab a FM signal, sadly it didn't. I changed to the jam nut INSIDE the tube and made sure it made contact hoping to improve the signal. It helped slightly but overall the signal is pretty weak.  

In my efforts to eliminate a useless nub on the fender I created a slightly bigger useless nub. This might be something I revisit later and try to improve on but for now its wins as most lackluster mod.
